Sara H. Becker – Artist Biography

I was born and raised in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area and currently reside in upper Montgomery County, Maryland. I paint primarily in the medium of oil or acrylic because I enjoy the vibrant colors that can be mixed to achieve dynamic impact. The opportunity to study and create art has been a life enriching second career. Learning that there is another way of seeing the world, noticing light and shadow and its affect on color, has provided a renewed appreciation for the gifts of nature. Always a student of art, continuing education has focused on drawing, design, painting and art history. Activities in the local visual arts community include participation in many gallery art exhibitions, paint-outs and workshops and have resulted in admissions into juried shows as well as awards in judged shows. I earned the Specialized Art Certificate in Painting from Montgomery College. Painting experience continues at the Yellow Barn Gallery with Walt Bartman and Jordan Bruns as well as independent workshops in the U.S. and abroad with teaching artists including Terry Miura, Marc Hanson and others.

My representational and abstract paintings are held in private collections, medical offices and the residence of a former U.S. ambassador.
Active memberships of local art groups include: Friends of the Yellow Barn, Montgomery Art Association, Olney Art Association, Montgomery County Plein-Air Artists, Miniature, Painters, Sculptors & Engravers Society and Garrett County Arts Council. My artwork is on exhibit at the Gallery Shop in Oakland, Maryland. Please visit my blog and virtual gallery on
